Tell everyone you know that you are a paper money collector, many people will give you specimens they have collected on trips to foreign countries. Some people may have friends or relatives from other countries coming to visit who will bring you representative banknotes from their country in exchange for US dollars when they arrive. You'll never get anything if you don't ask, it's always worth asking.

Have you ever held a gold coin in your hand? It's amazing! When you first hold a gold coin, the luster and weight immediately tell you why gold coins have been the standard in storing wealth for all of human history. So what do gold coins have to do with saving money for your mortgage down payment? It's actually very simple: gold attracts wealth. Some people call it attraction, others call it luck. Whichever you prefer, if you own a gold coin you will earn more income. Wealth will be attracted to you and you will save enough money for your down payment sooner than if you did not own the coin. Buy a gold coin and give your luck a boost.

Decide what type of paper money collection you want to have. Some people only collect banknotes which contain a certain image (fish, tractors, etc.). Others strive to obtain collections of currency from countries which no longer exist (Biafra, Rhodesia, etc.) Some focus on one single country while others try to collect from every country. It's all up to you and your interests. The variety of banknotes out there is so vast that there is bound to be some category you are interested in.

In 1861, on the brink of bankruptcy and pressed to finance the Civil War, U.S. Congress authorized the United States Treasury to issue paper money for the first time in the form of non-interest bearing Treasury Notes called Demand Notes.

Number One on my avoid list is the TV shopping show dealers and premium "Mints" out there that sell nice looking commemorative coins for premium prices, but that have no value beyond their bullion (if they have any) when you must eventually sell them. Some of these "Mints" sell on the TV and cable-based shopping channels, and the prices they charge when they do sell genuine U.S. Mint coins are nearly always several times higher than the price the coins would cost from a normal coin dealer! These shows rarely sell anything that can't be acquired elsewhere more cheaply, so don't impulse buy from these shows! Do a little research and you'll see the same Silver Eagles at $2 over spot price from major traditional coin dealers. Most of the Uncirculated Morgan Dollars I've seen TV shopping show dealers sell for $300 each can be purchased from a normal coin dealer for $30. Never buy coins from TV shopping shows!

The 1980-D&S Lincoln cent variety has bit the dust! Referred to by some as a Dual Mint Mark and by others as an Over Mint Mark (OMM), it had been one of the most hotly debated varieties amongst specialists for over a decade. James Wiles, 20th Century Variety Coin Attributer ...]
